Elsewhere and Oz may take place in the same universe. Elsewhere appear in Oz as main or recurring cast members. Multiple actors seen in guest roles on St.Elsewhere, and both feature characters acting as "liaisons" from the state who become romantically involved with senior staff. Storylines involving political conflict and conflicting interest between the prison and the state in Oz share similarities to those in St.(This is not exclusive to either show, but a staple of both shows is for a staff member to go out of their way, believe at first they are doing the right thing, only for it to not work out in the end.) Despite their efforts, the best intentions of the main cast are often for not. Both shows take place near major cities on the upper east coast of the US.Elsewhere I think but it still seems to happen most of the time) Someone dies in just about every episode.Elsewhere could easily apply the same ideas to Oz scripts. Someone with experience writing scenes for St. You have patient rooms (similar in writing usage to the pods in Em City), the ER (like the infirmary), the cafeteria, hallways, Westphall's/Glynn's offices, the morgue, supply closets, the meeting/lecture hall, etc. The individual settings of different scenes are similar. Both shows were intentionally written to have flawed characters, nobody being the epitome of perfection in any sense. On the other hand, both shows have main cast members whom are flawed and don't really want to be where they are.Oz is at least as old as the 1940's, quite possibly even older than that given that Ricardo Alvarez arrived there in 1943, so it would be quite an old prison by 1997. In regards to Oz, Emerald City is sort of an exception, but the rest of the prison is meant to be far less modern. Eligius and Oswald Correctional Facility are old and run down institutions that have senior staff members who truly care about what they do yet are stuck working at these rat holes for certain reasons. Again, not exclusive to either of these shows, but someone who has watched enough Oz might see that these shots and their dialogue were composed in much the same way. The best example I can think of are cafeteria scenes where the camera pans across different groups of characters making remarks relating to the storyline in focus. Nearly identical narrative techniques can be seen in both shows. Many episodes have an underlying theme between the stories being independently told. Story structure is very similar between the two, having storylines for multiple characters that are woven together throughout multiple episodes with no particular A or B story.Elsewhere isn't as exclusively indoors as Oz) Both shows are shot almost entirely indoors with some vignettes appearing outside.
